Somatic Therapy
& Nervous System Regulation

Somatic Therapy and Nervous System Healing

Trauma is not stored only in memory. It is also held within the nervous system and the body.

Somatic therapy focuses on the physiological responses that develop when the nervous system has been shaped by trauma, stress, or prolonged emotional pressure.

At 4Winds, somatic work often includes Somatic Experiencing®, a body-oriented therapeutic approach designed to help individuals safely process and release trauma stored within the nervous system.

How Somatic Experiencing® Supports Healing

Somatic Experiencing® helps individuals develop awareness of physical sensations and nervous system responses.

Through guided attention and gradual processing, the body can begin releasing patterns of fight, flight, or freeze that remain long after a traumatic event.

This work can help women:

• regulate chronic stress responses
• reconnect safely with bodily sensations
• release stored trauma patterns
• build resilience and emotional stability

Somatic Work at 4Winds

Somatic therapy may include:

  • Somatic Experiencing® sessions
  • Breathwork and body awareness practices
  • Nervous system regulation exercises
  • Grounding and embodiment practices
  • Equine-assisted experiential work

These approaches help women reconnect with their bodies in ways that support emotional safety and recovery.
