Therapies for Healing Trauma

Too many people are suffering from the symptoms of unresolved trauma, PTSD or other stress disorders. Feelings of powerlessness and hopelessness can lead to destructive behaviors that limit, debilitate and even impede our inherent need to thrive. Traditional trauma therapies often fall short, resulting in repeated and unnecessary cycles of human suffering.

At 4Winds Farm in Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley, we offer integrative holistic therapies that heal trauma by harnessing the interconnectedness of the body, mind and spirit. Participants benefit from experienced practitioners in a welcoming environment
on 134 acres of scenic farmland in Glenwood Springs, CO.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT, also known as talk therapy, is innately intertwined in all therapeutic practices. Cognitive functioning refers to multiple mental abilities, including learning, thinking, reasoning, remembering, problem solving, decision making, and attention.

“When we feel overwhelmed by trauma, talk alone isn’t going to do very much. We have to go to the unspoken voice of our bodies: one that doesn’t use words to create experiences that contradict those of fear and helplessness. An SE therapist may begin engaging with clients in much the same way as a talk therapist: inviting them to speak about the issues or feelings that are haunting them. But rather than focus on the content of what’s upsetting them, the therapist might say, “This may seem strange to you, but bear with me. I wonder if you would be willing to identify where, in your body, you feel those difficult emotions (or conflicts), and what do they feel like physically.” "An Interview with Peter Levine

Somatic ExperiencinG (se) therapy

Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) is the body-awareness approach to trauma. It is the result of over forty years of observation, research and development by Dr. Peter Levine, PhD. Based upon the realization that human beings have an innate ability to overcome the effects of trauma, SE™ has touched the lives of many thousands. This trauma therapy restores self-regulation, and returns a sense of aliveness, relaxation and wholeness to traumatized individuals who have had these precious gifts taken away. https://traumahealing.org

brainspotting therapy

Is a powerful, focused treatment method that works by identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, dissociation and a variety of other challenging symptoms. Brainspotting is a simultaneous form of diagnosis and treatment, enhanced with Biolateral sound, which is deep, direct, and powerful yet focused and containing.

Generational and Cultural Trauma

We believe it is invaluable to understand the psychological effects of trauma being transferred from one generation to another. Generational, Cultural trauma is a traumatic event that began decades prior to the current generation and has impacted the way that individuals understand, cope with, and heal from trauma.

Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) therapy

Is an intervention for the treatment of trauma and other self-regulation disorders. The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a research-based listening intervention that impacts vagus nerve functioning. The SSP was developed by Stephen Porges based on his Polyvagal Theory, after a lifetime of research on heart rhythms and the impact of hearing on heart rhythms and the development of childhood abilities. He describes how the proper working of a major sense organ, the ear, starts and maintains the body’s ability to alert or calm in the presence of others. Calm states are required for learning and development. People who benefit from the Safe and Sound Protocol experience relief from chronic internal agitation, reactivity, explosiveness, dissociation, overload in social situations and a host of related physical and psychological functioning changes. https://integratedlistening.com

Equine Medicine Wheel model therapy

In the circle of life, we are all connected. The return of the horse brought change, transformation, and healing to the Native Nations. The Equine Medicine Wheel Therapy is based on the Medicine Wheel Model of Natural Horsemanship, Phillip Whiteman, Jr., a Northern Cheyenne Indian from Lame Deer, Montana. http://www.phillipwhitemanjr.com/horse.html. This ancient tradition and natural spiritual connection to the Horse Nation presents these culturally rich gifts in a modern, sensitive and powerful way. This program is for those seeking a deeper spiritual connection to themselves, the earth and to all relations.
